Runestad participates in ‘a day in the life of a firefighter and paramedic’

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Jim Runestad recently participated in an event in Auburn Hills allowing participants “to live a day in the life of a firefighter and paramedic.”

“Firefighters and paramedics are our heroes on the front lines of catastrophe, rushing to help where others flee from danger,” said Runestad, R-White Lake. “We all should honor their service and bravery. Participating today, even in a small way, drove home how hard they work every day to protect us.”

Eight fire departments in Oakland County sponsored Fire Ops 101. Runestad was invited by West Bloomfield Fire Department’s Deputy Fire Marshal Dave deBoer and Training Captain Robert Bryant.

Participants were fitted for turnout gear, wore air masks, rode fire engines, conducted victim searches, felt the heat of a flashover, performed defibrillation on victims of cardiac arrest, and more.
