Runestad website offering unemployment assistance

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Jim Runestad reminded residents Wednesday that his office has provided an online tool to help constituents needing unemployment assistance.

“Statewide unemployment has surged due to the shutdown, putting incredible strain on the unemployment benefits system,” said Runestad, R-White Lake. “This has caused lengthy delays. Residents can visit my website to help get their claims processed more quickly.”

Those needing assistance should visit SenatorJimRunestad.com and click the button for unemployment assistance. They will be able to submit a form that provides information regarding their claim.

Runestad said his office is working with the response team at the Unemployment Insurance Agency to get constituents’ problem fixed sooner.

“We’ve handled more than 400 cases to date, and constituents are getting their problems fixed within about two weeks and are receiving whatever benefits they are due, back to their original filing date,” Runestad said. “We are able to help cut through the bureaucratic red tape to do what we can to help the most vulnerable get the resources they need.”
